Description
change Change is the act of making something different. While strategy answers "why" and "where", change answers "what." Change is an external event that is planned and implemented and results in something tangible being different in the organization. It consists of two fairly defined steps: something old stops and something new begins.
change resistance Resistance is present in any major change, and it is a normal and natural process of adapting to that change. People choose to change because of examples set for them more than from demands made of them. Leaders can only control their own ability to change.
communication Communication is the act of transmitting information between individuals or groups.
effective strategic leadership Effective strategic leadership requires a commitment to clarifying the answers to the essential big picture questions regularly. It requires that leaders continuously lay out the broad goals that keep the organization moving toward its desired future. Strategic leadership not only incorporates strategic thinking into the organization's ongoing progress, but also ensures it is the foundation of every activity.
engaging communication Engaging communication in a changing organization is a daunting challenge. It requires an effective and enduring connection between the senior leaders, the project teams, and all the first level supervisors. Information must be simplified and consist of strategic, change and transition related details. The most reliable and engaging form of communication is face-to-face dialogue between the people that have the change related information and those that need it.
implementing successful change Effective change leadership involves planning and implementing all details and activities required to ensure the change will take place in the real world, and not just on paper.
leading people through transition Leading people through transition requires intentional efforts to help people disengage from the old world and leave behind those things that are no longer required for the road ahead. It requires leaders to support people through the in between time. It involves everything that is required to ensure people become fully integrated into the new way of doing things.
strategy Strategy is the clarification of choices that determines the nature and direction of any organization. Strategy provides answers to the essential big picture questions an organization continually needs to ask itself.
The Integrated Approach to Leading Change (TM) The Integrated Approach to Leading Change includes four essential disciplines: strategy, change, transition and communication. The integrated approach weaves strategy into the actions of an effective change plan and offers help to people going though the transition process, through engaging communication.
transition Transition is the internal journey that takes place inside individuals, groups, divisions, organizations, cities, regions and countries. Transition is the psychological adaptations that usually begins well in advance of the change, and continues on well after that change has occurred.
